The tappets on this 150,000 km engine seem are a little noisy. With the timing belt off, I thought I might as well pull the cam cover off now and inspect & clean the tappets. At the very least, it might give me an idea of how clean the engine is internally.
Cam pulleys removed, cam cover off, cam carrier carefully unbolted (26 bolts undone in reverse sequence), camshafts removed and tappets lifted using a magnet.
Looks real clean! Added bonus, I found what looks like another camshaft seal leaking on the timing belt side. Smaller than the leak on the flywheel side and not much damage done (to cam pulleys, tensionner etc) so far, but it's good that this leak was caught now.
